Let us guide you through the exercise of applying the ARRM methodology to common “checkpoints” or tasks for fixing accessibility issues, and help you assign these tasks to the appropriate role.

When accessibility issues arise on your website, who is responsible for fixing them?

Your digital team is comprised of people with a variety of skills and roles – UX designers, visual designers, developers, content authors, QA testers, and project managers.

A fix for accessibility usually falls to more than one person on the team, given the specific skills involved – but to whom, when, and to what capacity - can be hard to pinpoint when there is no established process or framework for accessibility remediation.

Enter the Accessibility Roles and Responsibilities Methodology (ARRM), a new resource published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)!

In this workshop, Jennifer Chadwick guides you through the exercise of applying the ARRM methodology to common “checkpoints” or tasks for fixing accessibility issues and helps you assign these tasks to the appropriate role.

You will learn:

  • Who is responsible for fixing common accessibility issues - from adding alternative text to image, to ensuring video players have controls, to keyboard and screen reader compatibility
  • How to define the Primary, Secondary, and Contributor ownership for the task
  • How to use the Role Definition document to identify skills on your team, and the Role-Based Decision Tree to understand and assign responsibility and ownership.
